Redlands Bowl 2001 Season
July 13th
Programs start at 8:15 p.m.
Byron Nease & Suzanne Ishee. "Broadway Love Songs." A "valentine" of touching vignettes from the most enduring and best-loved musicals performed by these accomplished Broadway stars. Co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Redlands.
Broadway musicals come alive on the Redlands Bowl stage at 8:15 p.m. on Friday, July 13, with stage stars Byron Nease and Suzanne Ishee. Together, in a series of touching vignettes, they recreate the heroes and
heroines in the love stories of the enduring and well-loved Broadway musicals as the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival continues. Pianist Jerry Sternbach from Tarzana will accompany Nease and Ishee as they portray scenes with songs and dialogue from ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, MY FAIR LADY, KISS ME KATE, THE KING AND I, and OKLAHOMA. The highlight of this show will feature music from PHANTOM OF THE OPERA--both Andrew Lloyd Webber's version and the Kopit/Yeston version.
Nease and Ishee have taken this show to many music festivals throughout the country, expanding symphony work they have done in their many years of working together. They met while working with Angela Lansbury in the revival of MAME where Nease made his Broadway debut. Best known for his role as Raoul in Webber's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA on Broadway, Nease has also starred as Frank Butler in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and he starred opposite Bonnie Franklin in AN OFF-BROADWAY CABARET in New York and Los Angeles. His stage appearances have taken him from the Hollywood Bowl to Carnegie Hall, and he has appeared with dozens of
orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the London Symphony. For the better part of five years, Ishee portrayed Carlotta in Webber's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA in New York. In the Kopit/Yeston version, she played Christine, a portrayal critics raved about, as they did about her work as Eliza in MY FAIR LADY, and Lily in THE SECRET GARDEN, and about her role in New York City Opera's THE MERRY WIDOW which was broadcast on PBS last season.
This show is co-sponsored by Rotary Club of Redlands. The intermission speaker will be Sheila Cannon, Fund Development Chair, Redlands Community Music Association, Inc., and the co-owner of Coldwell-Banker Realty Center in Redlands. Members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Redlands and the Coldwell-Banker Realty Center will be the intermission ushers.
At 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, Nease and Ishee will present the Children's Festival Workshop at the Redlands Community Center, 111 W. Lugonia Avenue.
Continuing the tradition begun in 1924, this and all Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival events are open to the public at no charge, and a free-will offering will be collected at intermission.
