Redlands Bowl presents the popular "The Sound of Music", July 23, 25-27

The hills of Redlands will be alive with "The Sound of Music" as
the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival presents the award-winning musical on Thursday, July 25, through Saturday, July 27, with a dress rehearsal open to the public on Tuesday, July 23.
"This wonderful play is about people who faced tremendous
adversities and overcame them," says producer-director Wayne Scott. "During these troubled times, we can look to this true story and take heart."
Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The Sound of Music" ran for 1,443
performances after its 1959 opening on Broadway, and won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical for 1959-60. Filled with memorable songs--"Do-Re-Mi", "Climb Every Mountain", "Edelweiss", and the title song,
the play tells the story of the Von Trapp family of Austria building their lives together around music and escaping the Nazis at the start of World War II.
This year marks the one hundredth anniversary of Richard Rodgers' birth. "I can't say enough about Rodgers, the composer," said Scott. "Without his ground-breaking work in musicals like 'Oklahoma' we wouldn't have musical theater as we know it today. Rodgers was the first to use the score to help tell the story, exquisitely matching the music to the lyrics." Scott said that this year alone will see more than 150 productions of "The Sound of Music".
Scott, well-known in the inland area for his work as producer/director of LifeHouse Productions and Theater, will stage the original Broadway version of the famed show. To prepare for the production, Scott received original tapes from the Lincoln Center in New York City. "I wanted to see how it was done then," said Scott, who also received detailed instructions from the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization which sent him original choreographic notes. Scott has written, produced, and directed numerous musicals, comedies, and dramas throughout Southern California. His LifeHouse Theater in Redlands has won many awards and received rave reviews for their productions.
Scott has high praise for his production staff, which includes
Sally Inglis as his Stage Manager. "Sally is terrific," he said. "She
has been Stage Manager for many productions in Redlands and she is very wise." Jeff DeWitt, his Assistant Director, has worked with Scott for many years at LifeHouse.
"We are truly blessed to have Jill Arterburn as choreographer,"
Scott said, "as she has choreographed every major musical theater show and she's very gifted."
Nolan Livesay, professional musician and member of the San
Bernardino Symphony Orchestra, will be the Music Director and Conductor, and Roberta Harbison will be the Production Coordinator. Starring as Maria, Hayden Livesay of Covina has played Maria twice before and she has been in numerous productions at LifeHouse Theater. Randy Ingram of Riverside will sing the role of Captain Von Trapp. Ingram, a bass-baritone has played many leading roles in Riverside and the Claremont.
Melissa Tosh of Redlands will play Mother Abbess, and CeCe Gaede
will take the role of Elsa Schraeder, the Captain's early love interest. Mitch Stark of Redlands will perform as Max Detweiler, and the role of Liesel, the oldest von Trapp daughter will be played by Kristin Goodell, 17, of Riverside. The role of Rolf Gruber, Liesel's boyfriend, will be played by Jonathan Briggs of Redlands.
The children will be played by Dustin Ingram of Riverside, Emilie
Helvey of Redlands, Garrett Goodell of Riverside, Molly Myers of Redlands, Justine Nelson of Alta Loma, and Lindsey Krueger of Loma Linda. The Tuesday, July 23, presentation will actually be the dress rehearsal, which has become almost as well-attended as the main event.
