Beef
is Back
Not that beef has ever left the dinner
table of America, but for a short while it had become the
less desirable meat of choice. With the ever-changing dieting
habits of Americans, beef is being ordered more. The
Spunky Steer, as the name implies specializes in beef.
They have figured out the art of quick service, particularly
at lunch. This family style restaurant has 4 locations,
the Redlands location has been open since 1988 and is family
operated.
The same menu serves for both lunch and
dinner. To begin their offerings, they provide 7 types of
salads from dinner salads to steak or chicken salads that
could be enjoyed as a meal. For their entrées, they
have 7 different types of sandwiches (various chicken, tuna,
various beef, fish and egg) with ½ sandwich options.
Ranging in price from $4.25 - $7.95. They also serve a selection
of seafood and chicken entrees as options to their trademark
beef dishes. Spunky Steer offers 7 different seafood choices
ranging from kabobs to grilled or fried fish. These dishes
cost from $8.95 to $10.95. They have 4 basic chicken dishes
that range in prices from $6.50 to $8.75.
But beef is their specialty. They offer
23 different beef and beef combination dinners. Their hamburgers
rival any of those served in town. Under their Favorites
menu category their variety include: Beef dips, Bar-B-Q,
and various Roast Beef offerings. Under the Steaks category,
there are hamburger patties, kabobs, Rib Eye steaks, Bacon
wrapped and those with fish and shrimp, Sirloin, Baby Back
Ribs, Liver and Onions, Flank and, of course, T-Bone. These
dishes, with their various side dishes, range in price from
$5.25 to $16.95. It was interesting to note that with their
various soup, salad, grilled garlic bread and baked potato
options, that you can top your baked potato with either
chive dressing, butter blend dressing or cheese sauce.
For those who can start dinner at 3:00 p.m.,
they offer Specials of the Week with a price range of $5.95
to $13.95. They vary with each day of the week: Monday is
either Fried or Cajun Chicken, Tuesday is New York Steak,
Wednesday is Country Fried Steak, Thursday is Pork Chops,
and Friday, Saturday and Sunday is Steak and Pork Rib Combo.
The atmosphere, like its food, is straightforward
and unpretentious. And the portions are ample. The Spunky
Steer is a very casual dining restaurant, where everyone
can feel comfortable.
