Christmas Business
Online
forecasters predict another strong increase in online shopping
for the 2004 Christmas season. It is expected that online
transaction will increase by 20% again this year. As consumers
become more comfortable with shopping online, they seem to
enjoy missing the crush of malls during the busiest shopping
season of the year. Traditional retail sales are expected
to increase by a few percentage points, narrowly beating the
cost of living increase. While overall online retail sales
will be in the billions of dollars it still represents just
2% of all sales. To put this in perspective the catalog business
took one hundred years to achieve 10% of retail business;
it took the online business a brief time to achieve one fifth
of that of catalogs.
