3/12/2009 - Redlands Hosts 25 Years of World Class Bicycle Races The 25th Annual Redlands Bicycle Classic events begin Thursday, March 26, 2009 and will continue through Sunday, March 29th. The event is the largest road-cycling event in not only the Inland Empire of Southern California, but also the U.S. Each year, this East Valley event brings families, friends from the Inland Empire communities together with amateur and professional racing communities, for a family oriented event. Competitors range from world class professional cyclists to children on tricycles, and has become a tradition for many in the area. Presented by PossAbilities in partnership with CH&E Investments, these four days of legendary racing draws the world’s top professional and amateur cyclists, with a a combined purse of $50,000. Beginning at Highland Avenue and Redlands Boulevard, and ending at Citrus Avenue in Downtown Redlands, the Classic appeals to everyone! Every year, the whole community turns out, whether to watch or to participate - and there are plenty of ways to participate! Aside from entering one of the races, there are also many opportunities for volunteers to help. For instance, you can welcome a racer to stay in your home for a week by volunteering to be a host family for race participants. Special weekend events including a community breakfast, are planned for local spectators and participants.Each year the The Kiwanis Club of Redlands dishes up a delicious which is served adjacent to the Finish Line at the Municipal Parking Lot, located at 6th & Citrus, in downtown Redlands. The Rotary Club of Redlands hosts the Redlands Rotary Ride which is open to the public and purely recreational. The Kiwanis Club of Redlands will host a two-day pancake breakfast, to be held on March 28 and 29 from 7am-11:30 am.
